Personal Data

Q:Why do I have to provide my personal data on the application form? How can I change my data if I need to?

A:All personal data collected is used by the Association for identification and statistical purposes only. This data enables us to provide customised activities and benefits to our members. Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong undertakes to comply with the requirements of Hong Kong’s Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance to ensure that any personal data held in our possession is fully accurate and securely kept. The personal information of members (including names, email addresses and so on) may be used by Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong for the purposes of sending organisational updates, fundraising appeals, event invitations, surveys and other communication and marketing materials to members via telephone, post and/or electronic mail. If a member does not wish to receive any communication from the Association, we request that members email their full names (in both Chinese and English), together with their membership number and telephone number to our Corporate Communications and Marketing Section at [email protected]. If you wish to make any further enquiries, please contact us directly at 2783 3370. If members wish to access or make corrections to their personal data, please download and fill in the “Download Personal Information Update Form”, then scan the completed form and send it by email to [email protected]; fax it to 2783 3328; mail it to the Corporate Communications and Marketing Section, 5/F, Administration Building, 23 Waterloo Road, Kowloon; or personally hand it to the appropriate staff member at any YMCA service unit.

Q:Why should I provide my identity card number?

A:To better protect our members’ privileges, only members can use YMCA services and facilities. The YMCA has the right to request users to show their membership cards and identity cards for verification, for which case the identity card is the most powerful supporting document.

Q:Why should I provide my date of birth (DOB)?

A:We would provide different activities news and benefits to members according to their age. Moreover, we must provide our members’ DOBs while applying for activities insurance.

Q:Why do I need to provide my contact number, email and correspondence address?

A:From time to time there are changes to Association programme schedules or details, and YMCA staff will need to contact and inform the programme participants. Members are also kept up to date with the latest YMCA news, offers and benefits via SMS, email and by post.

Purpose of Membership Card

Q:What is the purpose of the membership card?

A:Members must show their membership card in order to participate in YMCA activities and use YMCA services or facilities. Furthermore, members can enjoy benefits by presenting their valid membership cards.

Q:What should I do if I lose my membership card?

A:Life and Supporting members can apply for a replacement membership card free of charge through the Association’s Corporate Communications and Marketing Section at 5/F, Administration Building, 23 Waterloo Road, Kowloon. Other members will need to pay HK$10 to obtain a replacement membership card. The validity period for the replacement membership card will remain unchanged.
