Introduction

“From Newer to New” Social Capital Project Nurturing Social Integration for New Arrival Families & Silver Head Group, a three-year subsidiary program, sponsored by the Community Investment and Inclusion Fund (“CIIF”), was officially launched at Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong, Jordan Centre in October, 2015. This is mainly a caring program aiming at promoting social integration and building collective social capital through the mobilization of a congregation of Silver Head Group and Newly Arrival Families in Hong Kong.

By sharing its “Under the Lion Rock” struggling stories and life experiences with the “New Arrival Families,” the “Silver Head Group” builds a tight network and helps the “Newly Arrival Families” cope with livelihood issues while raising resistance to adversity. Moreover, its allows the “Silver Head Group” to establish a platform to pass on its life experiences by continuing to perform its best in the ‘Halftime,’ setting new goals for spiritual life and emotional occupation as well as mutual sharing and support. Its efforts will ultimately drive the community forward by infusing sustainable value transformation in society, promoting long-term integration of newly arrived immigrants and local citizens to care for the community together.

Service Targets

  • New Arrival Families
  • Silver Head Group (50 years old or above)

Project Goals

  • To enhance social supporting networks between new arrival families and silver head group;
  • To facilitate social integration of new arrival families into society;
  • To bridge up professional groups in Yau Tsim Mong district for a harmonized society.
