The Y-Care CSR Scheme Honours Our Corporate Partners
We are blessed by their commitment to ESG principles and generous giving amid the pandemic

Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong (the Association) has been a firm believer in the concept of proper environmental, social and governance (ESG) management and reporting for some years. To further promote this philosophy, we gave our Y-Care CSR Scheme and Sport-Friendly Action Awards Presentation 2020-2022 broadcast the theme of “ESG: Building a Prosperous and Sustainable Society”. This online presentation was recorded and broadcast on 27 May. More than 160 awards and recognitions were given out to nearly 140 companies and organisations, honouring their achievements in moving ESG development forward in Hong Kong.

We were privileged to have Mr Paul Chan Mo Po, GBM, GBS, MH, JP, the Financial Secretary of the Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, with us as the officiating guest. Also present were Dr Arnold Cheng Cheuk Sang, President of the Association; Mr Karl Lau Chun Chuen, General Secretary of the Association; and Mr Andy Chung, Regional Representative Asia for ESG Matters – who each delivered a speech at the event and congratulated the awardees for their achievements. The guests also shared their insights about trends in ESG development with one another, aiming to galvanise every sector of society into embracing ESG. Mr Lau revealed that a “Sustainable Development Award@Y-Care” would be added to next year’s ceremony to honour our Y-Care CSR partners for their contributions to sustainable development in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals set out by the United Nations.

The Association’s Y-Care CSR Scheme was launched in 2015, aiming to establish close-knit partnerships with companies across Hong Kong that responded to the growing societal need for corporate social responsibility (CSR) which follows ESG principles. Over the past seven years, the Association has grown this scheme to encompass more than 100 enterprises, organising a huge number of CSR programmes serving the elderly, people with rehabilitation needs, low-income families, students with special educational needs, and people from ethnic minority groups.

The Association also launched the Sport-Friendly Action Scheme, encouraging enterprises to incorporate sport-friendly measures into their corporate policies. By doing so, they motivate employees to exercise more, building healthy daily habits and healthy work environments. The enhanced physical and psychological well-being that these habits produce also moves these enterprises closer to achieving the UN SDGs.

Workshop: Self-Knowledge Through Dreams and Art

Dreams are personal activities that take place entirely inside our mental worlds. Dreams give us information that our waking consciousness cannot. If we are trained to interpret our dreams with sensitivity,  and learn to discover their meaning with curiosity and humility, then we may encounter our authentic selves and actualise our self-completion.

The Association’s Counselling Unit will hold a workshop themed “Self-Knowledge Through Dreams and Art”. Mr Aleck Kwong Man Kit, a registered expressive arts therapist with the International Expressive Arts Therapy Association (IEATA), will talk about Jungian analysis and the existentialist approach to dream interpretation. He will help the participants use art as a medium to imagine and apply the messages behind our dreams to their realities in an interactive and co-constructive process.

Awards Time for the 2021 Mini-Movie Competition!

The Hong Kong Secondary School Mini-Movie Competition 2021, co-organised by Magna Education Centre, the Hong Kong Micro Movie Institute and the Association, came to a perfect cinematic ending at The Cityview on 28 May when we held the awards ceremony. Dr Philip Kwok Chi Kuen, President of Magna Education Centre; Dr Jim Hui Yik Piu, Acting Assistant Chief Social Services Officer of the Association; Dr Barry Chung Man Keung, Chairman of the Hong Kong Micro Movie Institute; and Mr Chiu Sin Hang (Hangjai@ToNick), our event ambassador, were all invited to speak at the ceremony and encourage the winners in each category.

Nearly 100 participants attended the live-streamed ceremony online. The competition received a total of 70 micro-movies from secondary school students, each of which encouraged society, families and friends to battle through the pandemic through original images and storytelling.

You can click here to re-watch highlights from the awards ceremony. All the winning movies are now available to view on the official YouTube channel. These will be screened later at ACX Cinemas in North Point in a grand finale to the competition.
