With the purpose of specific delegation and promotion,
Christian Work Department was formed in 1993. It involves more than
ten full time Christian ministers. In 1999, a Chaplain was appointed
to head up the Christian Work Department and plans the following
ministries among YMCAs in Hong Kong.
GOSPEL ACTIVITIES
All Christian activities are specially designed among our social
units such as Children & Youth Centers, schools, camp sites,
hotels and even outdoor evangelistic work for the less privileged
groups.
In fulfilling the idea of urban ministries, different means have
been tried in sharing Gospel message with the above groupings,
e.g. adventure-based counseling approach in pre-evangelistic works,
Gospel camps, Gospel dinner, groups for sharing and Bible study.
Youth rallies are found to be one of the effective means for sharing
Gospel to the youth. Besides, we have thousands of printed literature
such as Gospel tracts, booklets and cartoon distributed. Lastly,
we plan and pay regular visits and launch services to the churches
in China. Both gain in such kind of mutual sharing.
EDUCATIONAL WORK
As it is important to match the evangelistic work with preventive
educational programs, we organize talks, seminars and courses
to students and their parents. Programs titled as “Wise, Kind,
Brave Generation” and “ Rainbow Warrior” have a good compliment
among school administrative and Parent-teacher associations and
the public.
YMBASE, a unique Christian training course both full time and
part time is offered to the potential youth leaders. Most of our
graduates now serve as youth workers in church or school.
CAMPUS MINISTRIES
Having the heritage of “College YMCA” in the past, we have appointed
ministers stationing at Lingnan University for promoting campus
ministries.
Besides, we also place partner pastors supporting the evangelistic
and educational work in our College of Career, Secondary schools,
Primary schools and kindergarten.
COUSELING SERVICE
A holistic approach in counseling service with strong emphasis
of Christian value is employed to serve referral cases from our
social workers, teachers and even clients who drop in without
making appointment. Our counseling department has three full time
well-experienced Christian counselors handling case works and
conducting preventive workshops occasionally. They are often fully
engaged in their works all over the year.
CHAPLAINCY WORK
Spiritual direction and Christian nurture are offered in our
chapel or by personal appointment. Devotional hour and personal
interview and even intercession are available to both our staff
or people in need.
WEDDING
We offer wedding service in the chapels of Wu Kwai Sha Youth
Village and Kowloon Center. Most newly weds enjoy having a unique
and memorable wedding taking place in our special premise.
